Breaking the Fast…

Now that I’ve (mostly) gotten the hang of fasting on a daily basis, what do I break the fast with?

I have been consuming pretty high carb, lets be honest. It’s my go to. It’s what I want and it’s easy. BUT I’ve been having pretty intense energy swings. I have been getting so tired that I have to lay on the couch and feel unable to do anything. This happens to me every day. It seems to be getting worse lately. Upon my learning about IF it seems that breaking the fast with a high sugar/carbohydrate meal is not a good idea. Keep in mind, I am referring to short, intermittent fasting. Not full day fasts, not multiple day fasts. Breaking those fasts are completely different than what I am talking about.

In order to get your digestive system moving and ready have any of these, or any combination of these:

  1. Apple cider vinegar shot
  2. MCT oil
  3. Bone Broth
  4. Lemon water

It is best to eat protein, healthy fats, and whole grain foods such as:

  1. Eggs
  2. Avocado
  3. Nuts
  4. Spinach (other greens)
  5. Potato
  6. Berries
  7. Nuts
  8. Whole Grains
  9. Legumes
  10. Smoothie with greens, protein, berries (lower on the sugar)

Today I sauteed kale for the first time! It was incredibly good! https://physicalkitchness.com/lemon-butter-sauteed-kale-with-garlic/

I ate at least 3 cups of it because it was so good. Yesterday I sauteed spinach for the first time, it was good but I am not crazy about the texture.

So, I’m slowly introducing some lower Glycemic Index foods to my life, but still having things I enjoy as well. I’m hoping this will help stabilize my energy levels.
