Back Pain That Will Last Forever
Saturday
I went to the chiropractor today and it was probably life changing. I’m definitely not new to chiropractic care, but I hadn’t gone to one in about a year. I came to the conclusion that the neck adjustments exacerbated my headaches.
Hip Pain
The clinic that I go to in Colorado does a 20 minutes session by a massage therapist after the adjustments and that’s the main reason why I scheduled an appointment. My body tends to tighten up and turn into a ball of knots if I don’t take excellent care of myself. I told the chiro no neck stuff, so we just focused on left lower back and hip pain. The hip has been hurting since 2008. I had arthroscopic hip surgery in 2015 where they repaired the cartilage and reshaped the bone. The surgery and years of physical therapy helped a lot but it still hurts every day and I haven’t been able to run which causes me to be significantly less active than I’d love to be. I have mostly made peace with this and have figured out what types of workouts and sports I can do without further hurting myself.
Back Pain
The lower back started hurting in July of 2023 and has gotten worse over time. Physical Therapy has helped a ton but it hurts so much every day. I keep up with the exercises at home but it still hurts and I assumed it’d just hurt for the rest of my lifeβ¦ One of my all time favorite comedians, Louis CK, says it the best:
This chiro explained the iliopsoas muscle to me and it made a lot of sense about the location of my pain. He explained that in order to be pain free it is best to do chiropractic adjustment along with massage therapy first. And as that improves sort of the location of things (that was my own translation of how he explained it, there’s a lot more to it than that) then add in physical therapy to then train the muscles to kind of hold things in better. That’s how my brain translated and understood what he said, it’s the much abbreviated version…
The way he explained everything made sense to me. I’ve had some chiropractors make incredible claims and I’ve wondered if that one in particular, was a bit of a snake oil salesman. So of course this guy will tell me I will get better with chiro care but I have had many things improved by chiropractors and honestly my pain level is way better after one session just today!!
Massage Session
The massage therapist massaged the iliopsoas muscle in the front of my hip and she worked miracles let me tell you! I didn’t realize I how much pain I was having in the front of my hip and leg until it suddenly felt better after a little love!
Calcium for Morning Soreness?
Tuesday
I went to the chiro again yesterday, they’re having me go twice a week. They addressed the same things, plus more. He asked if I am stiff in the mornings and I said yes, extremely. He told me to take Calcium Glycinate or Bis-Glycinate. And to always take it with magnesium to a 2 to 1 ratio. He said that type of calcium will be best for me since I always get heartburn from citrus and tomato products. Otherwise he’d have me take Calcium Citrate. I have never heard of taking calcium for sore achy muscles but I’m going to try it. He says after I take the calcium and magnesium to wait 2 hours and then apply heat to an area that is sore, and that will help bring oxygen to that area and relieve the pain. I’ve never heard of doing this but I am interested in testing it out π€·πΌββοΈ He also gave some tips for the Hiatal hernia and heartburn issues other doctors want me to have surgery on.
Ubrelvy for Migraines – Nope
The newer place I went to in order to get botox for my migraines had me try Ubrelvy. She doesn’t like that the triptans I take (Sumatriptan and Rizatriptan) causes my Raynaud’s to be much worse. I don’t like that little side effect either! So I tried Ubrelvy in place of a triptan yesterday and by golly it sucked! It didn’t help and maybe even made my headache worse I am not totally sure, it’s hard to gauge such a thing. As the evening rolled around I started feeling slighty better. When I woke up this morning I felt like I slept like a log and it was hard to get myself up and going, but it felt like really good quality sleep, like the sleep of a log, a dead log.
