I *Attempted* to Make Protein Bars

Geographic Tongue!?

One thing that’s been bugging me almost every day this week is possible Geographic Tongue, mouth and tongue pain 😢 I have been eating too much fruit…allegedly. Fruit is absolutely the culprit pretty much any type of fruit including salsa. Tomato is a fruit in case ya didn’t get the memo! I always have a big ass fruit smoothie for breakfast and I prefer to have another smoothie in the evenings but this seems to piss my mouth off, especially when it’s multiple days in a row.

Oral Allergy Syndrome

Based on some google searches, it could be Oral Allergy Syndrome. This sometimes occurs just certain times of the year based on the season of the offending fruit(s). But my good ole pal Emily says she has Geographic Tongue and all her symptoms seem to match up with mine. I have more learning to do on the topic but I do not have the white or red splotches that occurs with Geographic Tongue.

I am leaning towards it being OAS but I haven’t asked my doctor and have more learning to do…

Protein Bars

Today I was so bummed about not being able to finish my cherished smoothie. I was legitimately hungry and had no idea what to eat instead. I have plenty of other food but so many things could potentially cause heartburn especially if eaten earlier in the day. My job is very physical so I can’t risk being in pain just by bending over.

It could easily mess up my day. I have heartburn meds I can take as a last resort but I prefer not to.

Anyways, I got the idea to make my own protein bars! I have never made them before but I looked up some recipes and just winged it. I came up with my own recipe and to my amazement they were really good!

Energy

While I was at work I realized I had a ton of energy. This doesn’t tend to happen to me. I will either be tired or adequately energized to get things done that need to get done. I felt a little bit of hyperness which was odd. I have no clue if it was these magical bars that I made but it would make sense!

Sort of Good Homemade Protein Bars

I didn’t have a lot of time and I didn’t follow a recipe but here is what I did:

I put old fashioned oats in a food processor, blended that up to a flour consistency. I threw in some tapioca flour (I believe this ingredient made it not taste good luckily I didn’t put a lot in, but I do not recommend this stuff [okay, mine is a little old so maybe when it’s fresh it’s good]). 2 eggs, chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, peanut butter powder, artificial sweetener (I used a stevia erythritol blend [I limit the use of erythritol because it can be bad for your heart]), a generous sprinkling of sunflower seeds because why the hell not.

I baked that bitch at 350° F for 25 minutes. It was okay, surprisingly good actually. I still got a whiff of the weird flavor – probably from questionably old tapioca flour. So I decided to dress it up with a chocolate peanut butter outer shell. So basically this is like cake or brownies but with protein lol. And kinda healthy. I melted coconut oil, a little peanut butter, and a little plant based butter. I added cocoa powder and the artificial sweetener deliciousness. I sensually poured the chocolate mix on top of the bars and viola. I let it cool and harden and I’m no Betty Crocker but it was edible – good even! About 5 hours later it’s a bit hard but I’ll tweak the recipe next time so it’s not like eating cement lol.
