Back Pain and Mattress + Daily Headaches + Thyroid Throat Bump

Hi! It’s been a while since I’ve done a casual “journal” style post so here we go!

I gave up mattress – sleeping for what, a few months now? You can see my other posts about that here. I had my mattress propped up against a wall in my bedroom to get it out of the way so that I could sleep on the hard platform my mattress is usually on. I put a thick exercise mat in its place and that has helped my back pain tremendously!

Mattress Moved Back To Its Platform?!

It was in the way and looked ugly propped up there, I don’t really have a better place to store it. (I wasn’t ready to get rid of it completely since I freaking love my mattress and grew attached to it over the years [we all know I cherish my sleep]). In order to get it out of the way and uncover a heat vent that it was on I put it back on my bed. I put a board on top of my mattress and put the thick exercise mat on top of it and wah lah. I have a firm surface to sleep on.

I figured I only needed the board to be 4 ft long to be under my back. Plus I have many pillows and those should suffice to lift up my head and neck right?

I’m Not So Sure

My neck and upper back have been really messed up lately. I eventually pushed the board higher up so it goes completely under my neck and head. My legs have enough height with the exercise mat doubled up. Since making this change it has been better but still not 100%… I decided it’s time to be gone with my beloved mattress!

My platform bed looks bad without a mattress on it so I may buy a Japanese mattress. But I really enjoy sleeping on a harder surface, it’s weird how much I love it! I need to get my big mattress out of my house. I did some searching online for ways to dispose of or donate a nice used mattress. A lot of people suggested listing it for free on facebook marketplace or craigslist. So that’s my current plan and I may ask to get a little money from it but I will mostly be grateful for someone to pick it up. As I am writing this out it’s helping me to process and it seems like it would be worth it to just move my mattress back up against the wall again for now and see if it helps my new upper back pain. So thanks, I’m glad we had this talk!

Headaches for 3 Weeks

This leads me to the daily headaches I’ve had for at least 3 weeks. It’s possible that switching up my bed situation caused my neck/upper back pain, thus causing me to have daily headaches. Needless to say it’s been hard to keep up with life things, but I’m sort of staying afloat.

Throat Bump

So, the throat bump I previously mentioned here, turned out not to be a lymph node. It is my thyroid. It is probably just a thyroid nodule which is benign and harmless. I am getting a biopsy this upcoming Friday, I look forward to figuring out what it is!
