Back Pain Sans Mattress — Update
Happy October! 🎃 👻
Well, I’ve been working a lot. It’s a good problem but exhausting nonetheless. Sometimes I feel that it makes it impossible to keep up with my numerous “side hustles”. But the truth is, not really. When I have too much spare time (it’s hard to imagine such a thing but it has happened) I am not as productive and motivated as I am when I am busier. You know what they say, “if you need something done, ask a busy person”. I see it as operating at a higher gear. You’re used to going fast so it is easy to keep going fast. Or erm something like that. Maybe describing it as higher levels of productivity rather than gears. Either way, you kinda get it right?
Throat Lump
My throat lump that I wrote about here, back in August is still there. Every day I keep thinking maybe it’s a little smaller but then I check it later and realize that no it is not smaller. The Urgent Care doctor said it was probably a swollen lymph node, but I feel like it should have gone away by now. I have an appointment with my doc next week, I’m hoping it’ll go away before then so I can cancel the appointment that will probably be pointless anyways. I bet she will tell me it’s a swollen lymph node that will go away and it’ll be a waste of time. That brings me to my new fun knee pain that I’ve never had before that doesn’t seem to be going away. I plan to ask her about it at that appointment…but first an update on back stuff!
Back Pain Update
👉🏼 Over time I have gradually gone from using my nice normal amazingly comfortable latex hybrid (green-tea-infused [whatever that means]) mattress to basically sleeping on nothing. I transitioned to sleeping on a board that is on my bed frame with a not very thick at all exercise mat. I explain my reasoning for doing this here along with the video that inspired me to try it. My back pain has DEFINITELY improved but it’s still there. It’s still there quite a lot on some days. Other days it’s hardly there.
How Yoga Affects My Back Pain
🧘🏼♀️This year I’ve been doing 10-20 minute yoga youtube videos multiple days per week. I was a yogi starting at age 19. I had gotten out of my practice quite a bit over the course of like 4 years without realizing it. But this year I realized I’m sure it helps my mobility as I age. So I have made it a priority again. I plan on doing longer in-person classes soon. But for now the short yoga videos work extremely well for me, I highly recommend them.
A few weeks ago I noticed my back and hip was killing me. I had been exercising a lot (which usually helps my pain) so it didn’t make sense why I was in so much pain. Until it dawned on me, I had been too busy and hardly did any yoga that week. Yoga is the key! So, I’m making that more of a priority. It is hard to fit it in because I already exercise 6 days a week and have been working a lot with work that’s very physical but…I guess that’s more of a reason to get my stretch on and let my mind and body rest during that time. I prefer chill relaxing yoga, it does wonders for me.
New FUN Swollen Painful Knee

About a week ago, I started feeling pain in my left knee. In trying to determine if it was joint pain or muscle pain I noticed it was also swollen. Best case scenario I bumped it on something and forgot (highly likely). Worst case scenario (well not the worst I could possibly think of…) it’s another chronically swollen body part to add to my list of constantly swollen-for-years parts (some for over half of my life). One of my fears is that whatever is causing my swelling is just going to get worse as I age and I’ll soon be the michelin man no matter how much I exercise or how little I eat, but let’s not think about that because our thoughts create our reality, okay Becky!?!
Ehem, in conlusion, my knee hurts. It doesn’t seem to hurt when I bend it, and it is swollen at the top lateral side. I am going to pray it goes away along with my swollen ankles that have no real medical explaination! Yet, actually, this geneticist seems to think it could be Ehlers-Danlos now even though he told me I didn’t have it the prevoius time I saw him, I even have a piece of paper where he wrote “not Ehlers-Danlos”. So, that’s a whole other blog post I haven’t gotten to yet.
I hope you’re having a pumpkiny spooky October so far! I’m hopefully going to a haunted house and doing something fun this year for Halloween. I could really use more fun in my life. Okay bye!
