Heartburn, THC, and Aunt Flo

Thursday 4/17

I think my cycle has normalized, hallelujah! Sorry not sorry if it’s TMI for anyone but hey, no one is forcing you to be here!

Easy Salad

I just got home from work and I am eating a delicious salad. In order to eat more veggies I am making sure I always have a salad kit in my fridge. What I have been doing with them is probably unique.

I’ve been getting mostly the Taylor Farms ones, or any that have rougher veggies rather than soft leafy greens like spinach, romaine, iceberg. My favorite is the Green Goddess salad. I find any salad that has a lot of cabbage, carrots, and kale type of veggies and guess what I do with it. Saute it!

I use a tiny amount of butter or oil and toss ½ of the package of veggies in and cook it up. I put it in a bowl, add in the dressing (not a ton, it seems like you need less after cooking it), and other toppings. And viola. I also bought some kimchi today and I threw that on top and it is superb and pretty healthy! The salad kits have processed ingredients so it’s not the 100% healthiest salad in the world but for the ease and price it’s dang close enough!

Heartburn City No More?

Something I noticed today is that… I haven’t been getting heartburn a lot lately. It’s weird. The main thing I can think of is quitting THC. I don’t think I have explained this too far in depth in my previous posts but the quick rundown is that my gastroenterologist/surgeon explained that consuming THC even in edible form, can cause gastroparesis. She told me I had to quit marijuana immediately and get tested again for gastroparesis doing a Gastric Emptying Study. Now that I am typing this out, I remember posting about potential THC and Gastroparesis correlation here.

Mom, Dad, I am was a Marijuana Addict 🙃

I was doing THC edibles at night to help me sleep and it became a nightly habit. Before talking to this doctor, I already cut way back on the dosage, at the highest point it was 20 mg at night, not every night, but almost. It became a habit without me really realizing it. I came to the realization that it couldn’t be doing a whole lot of good for my life and brain. I started weaning off of it, little by little. The last amount I was taking was .65 mg a night. This was such a small amount I wasn’t sure if it was enough to even do anything but I prefer to wean very slowly. I fully quit this January, 2025. After my second Gastric Emptying Study the gastroparesis levels went down significantly. I was shocked! I haven’t touched THC or CBD since then. I’m seriously thinking this could be helping my heartburn.

Eating Fun Food

The past few weeks even when I eat something that would usually cause SEVERE debilitating heartburn it hasn’t affected me as much. It affects me a little and I still need to be careful but, it’s nothing like it was last year. Bringing me to tears, unable to sleep or work or hardly move at times. Freaking aspirating – stomach acid going into the lungs it’s quite terrifying, I do not recommend it 😳

I also quit coffee last year. Sometimes I’ll make coffee that is 75-80% decaf and the rest regular and that seems to work well for me. Damn nothing really compares to a tasty cup of joe, even a mostly decaf one.

Geneticist

I had another appointment with the Geneticist, we don’t have any new findings but they had me send in another DNA sample and we’ll get a full genetic workup on that. I’m interested to see what we find. You better believe I’ll share the results here… Stay tuned!
